A Week of Nico

Our son is one week old today.

I think I’ve adapted to my new life pretty well. It is pretty crazy to think that last week I had time to blog, read, make meals, snuggle with Angelo…

I’ve been replaced!

… but now I’m dealing with caring for a newborn, trying to care for my stitches and recover from the delivery, all while remembering to eat and bathe and keep my energy up.

But honestly, Nico has been a great baby so far. Out of seven days, there have only been two bad ones – that’s a pretty good ratio! He also sleeps well most nights (thank god!)

He’s also super fun to hang out with. I know that he’s only a week old, but he’s already so curious! His eyes are always taking in his surroundings and he just started reaching out to grab the things that he sees. I try to put my face super close to his so that he can reach out and touch me. And he’s STRONG! he can hold his head up pretty well, and his grip is very strong, too.

I also had my home visit with the Public Health Nurse (as part of the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program), and she thinks that things are going well, too. She weighed him today, and he’s 8lbs 1oz, which is more than his birth weight, so we know that feeding is going really well. It was really nice having someone come to my home to answer my questions and provide info and tips.

    Congratulations again to you three!

What a wonderful birth story, thanks for sharing! Before I went through labour I didn’t really understand the interest in birth stories…but now I love hearing them. I am amazed that you had the energy to write it up in such detail so soon after the birth. You must have amazing strength and a lovely cooperative baby. You are blessed. xo
