Road to Recovery – Biking on Rollers

My session with the physiotherapist this week was one of the most successful yet. He rubbed my patellar tendon for a good 5-7 minutes, and once he was done, my knee felt the best it had in the last four months. I walked out of there like NOTHING was wrong with it. It almost brought tears of joy to my eyes!

Later that evening, still riding the high from my appointment, I decided to try to bike a little bit, and see how my knee would fare. Angelo pulled the new Trek off the wall (which may or may not turn out to be MY new Trek) and threw her onto the rollers:

I’ve been thinking that I want a bike with gears (at least during this recovery recovery period) but also as a nice alternative to the fixie. This would be good for longer trips (like to the cottage, or to Almonte).

Isn’t this a cool photo? Action shot!

I was positively giddy at the prospect of riding a bike, and expending a little energy. But as Angelo kept jinggling and jangling, I knew something was wrong… The shifters weren’t working. The chain would just slide back down the chain ring every time he let go of the shifter.

Ange was super not happy:

Stupid Rollers.

Stupid Trek.

pout
I still managed to pedal on it for a little bit, since I didn’t really need to switch gears on the rollers. My knee felt great during the ride, though it did had one weird-feeling pop (I felt it coming with every rotation, and it was actually better when it did finally pop, but it was a weird feeling, to be sure!) But there was no pain, no nagging discomfort, and no swelling. It felt… normal.

So this weekend I’m hoping to head out on the road (though the Trek still needs a lot of work… Maybe I’ll have to take the Green Machine out for a jaunt after all…) especially since it’s supposed to be 10*C in the capital this weekend…
