Food Log – Day 4

Yesterday’s breakfast was more of the same… Sigh.

Egg white and cheeze omelette with faux turkey slices and spinach. It was good. Oop, glass of soymilk too.

I also had the customary tea at work:

But I totally broke the law and had FRUIT for a snack:

A delicious grapefruit. I ate half of it at around 10:30, and the other half at noon.

Then I had lunch:

It was good. I made my own salad today, leafy greens, cucumbers, green peppers, pistachios. I love monochromatic salads!!

I had some nuts on the way home from work, and a Greens+ when I got home from work:

And I made a really nice little supper:

I made some cauliflower mashed “potatoes”, a little bean medley with tomato paste and cumin, and these adorable little stuffed mushrooms (stuffed with spinach, the mushroom stems, and topped with a little hummus and paprika) they were way cute, and way tasty. I LOVE mushrooms.

I picked up our fruit and veggie basket today, and I got totally lectured by the produce guy. It really bugged me, because it was uncalled for, and I’ve got this nagging feeling that if I was, say, a man, it wouldn’t have happened. Why is it that men feel they can talk down to women so easily?

Oh well, I ended up getting what I wanted (good thing, because I had called ahead, and was told it would be alright… grr) and walked home with lots of tasty things:

The cause of all this grief was that I wanted to sub out the apples and pears for some avocados. As you can see, I got my way in the end. Not that it excuses the lecture.

Food Log – Day 3

I’m sort of getting into this food log. It’s fun, and it works so much better than writing everything down. I mean, this way it’s just one click, and you have a rough estimate of portion, and a visual reminder of all the yummy stuff you put into your meals. Though I feel totally dorky taking photos of my food when I’m in my little cubicle at work. I actually turned off the sound effects on my camera (no more shutter sound, etc) so that no one would get weirded out by my constant clicking!!

Breakfast:

Another egg white omelette (with red onion, cheeze and paprika). This time I had it with a Tofurky sausage (yes, that’s only ONE sausage!!). It was good, but I was having the day 3 blues, so I didn’t really dig it.

By the time I got to work, I was so tired, trudging through the snow (for 45min!!) in some cold ass wind. -30C + Tears = Frozen eyelashes. Not fun. I was soooooo tempted to get a coffee, I was sitting there at my desk, unable to work (can’t type with frozen fingers) and ready to fall asleep, and I was really ready to go to the Coffee Shop and buy one. But I held fast. I haven’t gone three months without a cup just to throw it away now… And I DON’T want to go through the headaches again… So I made a cup of tea, instead. Yeah yeah, there’s probably just as much caffeine in tea, but whatevs…

Irish Breakfast. I love Twinnings tea. Yes, Lady Grey is my all-time fave, but I like this one too.

So by the time snack time rolled around, I had already had my tea, but I did nibble on these:

A couple of faux turkey roll ups. They have a slice of faux turkey, a little mustard, and some of that cheeze (seen in the background) wrapped in a lettuce leaf. They were good, though I’d like to make some tapenade, or bean spread instead of the processed “meat”. It tasted a little like a gradeschooler’s snack, know what I mean?

For lunch I had the same thing as the day before:

Which doesn’t help when you’re already bummed about the diet. Yesterday was a low day. But hey, that’s day 3. When I did the Mastercleanse, Day 3 sucked hard, every time. (Day 7 sucks pretty hard too, so watch out for me come Monday!)

In the afternoon I had some nuts:

The perfect pick me up for writing minutes. They did the trick, but by the time I got home at 5:15, I was REALLY hungry. Angelo and I made dinner together:

This was really good. We steamed some broccoli and beans (seen here sprinkled with Wheat Germ) and we fried up some onions, mushrooms, and smoked wheat. We topped it with sourekrout and mustard. Mm-mm.

But then, at around 9:30pm, I got peckish… and ate when I probably shouldn’t have…

We’ve got some cucumber, pickles, hummus and guaccamole (I didn’t have any of the carrots). Yes this was split between Angelo and me, but still. I should have resisted… Sigh.

Food Log – Day 2

Yesterday’s food went something like this:

Breakfast:

Egg white and cheeze omelette with a little paprika and salsa, served with a side of faux bacon. The trick with these is to really nuke them in the microwave to give them that crispy texture. I also had a big ol’ glass of Metamucil. (this is a daily staple, but may not always be pictured just FYI). Breakfast was okay today, but I got pretty hungry for lunch.

I did have my snack of tea (Earl Grey today) and almonds:

For lunch I ate another Bread and Sons salad:

Red Pepper and seeds on mixed greens, with olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing. There’s supposed to be some sweet potato in the salad too, but Angelo ate them all before meeting me for lunch, so as not to tempt me with their sweetness and oh-so-fulfilling texture.

I had a meeting in the evening, and so I had to eat my dinner at my desk (not super fun):

It was the leftover black bean soup, with three slices of cheeze. I love this soy cheeze, and I think I better watch it, because I seem to snack on it whenever I’m feeling nibbly. And while it may not have any cholesterol, it’s still super processed and not the best thing in the world for me. It just tastes real good is all.

So when I got home it was after 9pm, and I was prett hungry, so I had a late night snack:

Almond milk and ice blended with two tbsps of sugar free hot chocolate mix, and a handful of mixed nuts.

It was really good, but I don’t think I should have had it so close to bed time, because I was up from 2am to 4:30am this morning with stomach pains. It didn’t make for a good morning either, and I was super grumpy towards Angelo, who for some reason was in a really sweet and wonderful mood and did everything to make me feel better. He is – the – best.

Food Log – Day 1

So I’m not going to do this forever, but for the next two weeks I’m going to photograph all the food that I eat in a day.

Yeah, it’s the South Beach diet again. But this time I’m going to make it ALMOST all vegan. The only exception will be egg whites. I’m going to eat egg whites most mornings for breakfast (though they have no cholesterol, which is what I’m really concerned about these days) so I’m willing to include them for the purpose of the diet. But mostly it will be beans, veggies, and nuts.

So this is what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast: egg white omelette (with nutritional yeast and paprika) on spinach and Yves “turkey” slices. Topped with a little mustard. I also had a glass of Metamucil.

Snack: I had 15 almonds and a Lady Grey tea with sweetener and soy milk.

Lunch: I had a Bread and Sons salad (mmm…) This was the Tofu one: greens with tofu, carrots, avocado, and tahini dressing. Topped with black and white sesame seeds.

Dinner: I made a salad of leafy lettuce, cucumbers, a small handful of nuts (almonds, filberts, walnuts) and topped with a little wheat germ. The dressing was just balsamic vinegar and olive oil, with a clove of garlic minced. I also had some bean soup (from a can) with a bit of shredded soy cheese on top.

Night: I had a cup of sugar free hot chocolate. It’s made with mostly water, but a little soy milk for creaminess…
