More Food…

Last Friday I was craving some Channa pretty hard. I scoured the Byward Market for some Indian eats, but I’m still trying to save money, and I didn’t want to spend upwards of $7 for some chickpeas. I went home instead, but still, I had that craving in the back of my mind.

How hard could it be to make some myself?? Surely not that hard. Now, at this point I would usually surf the net for a recipe, but for some reason I just decided to wing it. It’s amazing how easily I can throw something together when there’s no expectation, and no pressure. Whenever I cook for Angelo, I get so nervous to get it right that I end up screwing it up (usually at the last stage of preparation, when he’s there waiting to be fed – dammit!). But Ange wasn’t around, and I just cooked, and it was really great. I might just forgo recipes from here on in, because I do much better without them for such things…

This Channa tasted just like the take out stuff, so good and flavourful and totally filling. This meal was so good. In fact, when Angelo came home kinda drunk later that night, I forbade him from eating it, because I wanted him sober so he’d remember the taste. Yeah, I’m a fucking weird housewife…

One who messes up from time to time, too. This little mishap occurred when I tried to make the veg sausages from Everyday Dish. Rule #1, Never Leave your Vital Wheat Gluten Tubes unattended while Steaming in a Starfrit Plastic Steamer…

Sigh. I paid good money for that stupid thing.

In other news, we’ve had new carpets installed upstairs, and we’re slowly getting things checked off our list (and on budget and on time, too!). We’re going to tackle the kitchen soon, and I can’t wait. As it stands now, there’s just no room in there, and it seems as though there’s a lot of wasted potential in that room. I can’t wait to let loose on it!! In the meantime, this is what I’ve been able to do with it in its current state:

Stirfry with greens, onions, and edemame
With Ricotta and crispy pita. And the littlest glass of beer ever.

Hearty Soup. I add 1 tbsp of peanut butter to all my soups now. Oh how yum.
